30.12.2010- Spring in my step

If you're already disillusioned with the end of season sales which are everywhere at the moment, I bring you a refreshing antidote- a sneaky preview of Topshop's SS11 collections:

Homespun Handiwork- cut-out, crochet, think Woodstock.
Print Overload- 70's shapes and vibrant prints, all paired together to clash.
Earthy Stones- a touch of the Wild West with the obligatory cowboy hat.
Colour Pop- accessories in a range of rainbow brights.
The Midi Skirt- a more bohemian take on the ladylike trend.
The Kick Flare- touted as the staple item of the season, letting you release your inner glam rocker.
I adore the printed blouse/dress in the first picture, and, as we saw at London Fashion Week, Topshop's Unique collection for next season looks great. I'm already in love with this beautiful butterfly printed blouse, which I saw in store today...
Cream Butterfly Print Flute Sleeve Blouse, £45, TOPSHOP.
...although I can't quite justify buying spring clothes in December!

What do you think of Topshop's SS11 range? Are you looking forward to the new collections hitting the shops?

27.12.2010- Crimbo Limbo

After the excitement of Christmas Day, we now have that funny in-betweeny time until New Year known as Crimbo Limbo. As well as eating nearly my body weight in chocolate (once you open a selection box, it's lethal!), watching the Miranda Christmas special on repeat and slowly making a dent in the many new additions to my DVD collection, I've also had a chance to catch up with loads of fashion editorials I'd missed, including this beautiful shoot from Zink magazine:

Mariana Idzkowska by Waldemar Hansson, styled by Kawa H Pour.
Definitley a bit of inspiration for a glamourous New Year I think!

Did you have a good Christmas? Have you snapped up any bargains in the sale? And what are your plans for New Year?

Also, over Christmas I reached 100 followers! Thank you all for your return visits and lovely comments, if I could make you all a cake and share it with you then I would. ♥

24.12.2010- Merry Christmas to all...

Roll out the Red, shot by Yuval Hen for How to Spend it Magazine.
Have a wonderful Christmas everyone! I'm looking forward to finally being able to have a mince pie (my mum bans anyone from touching the festive food until Christmas Day!), spending some time with my wonderful family and taking up residence in front of the telly. I hope you all get lots of lovely presents and enjoy the celebrations.

What are your plans for Christmas?

22.12.2010- Scenta Claus

You always know Christmas isn't far away when you suddenly see perfume being promoted during the ad break of nearly every television programme you stumble across, regardless of how cheap and nasty said programme may be when compared to the rather more sophisticated fragrance. This kind of clever product placement also gives us all the chance to elbow our parents/boyfriend/neighbour/cat, oh so subtly hinting that we might just be needing some new more eau de toilette loveliness for Christmas. And, when you're sitting on the sofa in your pyjamas, hair askew and with your novelty slippers on, a little touch of designer magic in the ad break of Corrie does have a way of making you feel slightly less slob and slightly more chic. So, to celebrate this, and to get you feeling even more festive, I've put together a selection of my favourite perfume adverts:

Chanel No. 5, starring Audrey Tautou

Directed by Jean Pierre Jeunet, and starring the beautiful Audrey Tautou who was the quintessential Coco in Coco Before Chanel, this advert was filmed on the Orient Express and features the beautiful vocals of Billie Holiday. The amber-filtered images look like they're being view through a bottle of Chanel No. 5, and I think this beautiful advert really captures the essence of what the scent is all about; mystery, romance and classic style. Plus I much prefer it to its predecessor, which, in spite of the fact that it was the most expensive advert ever made, feels slightly tacky if you ask me!

Flora by Gucci

The inner hippy in me adores this advert, shot by Chris Cunningham. Take Abbey Lee Kershaw, a sun-drenched field full of flowers and a haunting remix of Donna Summer's I Feel Love, add a touch of Gucci magic and you've got an advert which will make you long for summer even more.

Miss Dior Chérie

Sofia Coppola captures the magic of Paris for this Dior advert, set to Brigitte Bardot's Moi je joue. The pastel hues and cine-film feel give the advert a really quirky lightness. If wearing Miss Dior Chérie means I can run away to Paris, take in the sights and shop until I drop, then I think I'll definitely have to put some on my wish list. Dior have also recently announced that Natalie Portman is to be the new face of Miss Dior Chérie, so I can't wait to see how Natalie's advert compares.

Liv Tyler, Very Irresistible Givenchy

From 2003, this black and white advert feels more like a short film, as we see Liv capturing the fun and elegance of Givenchy's Very Irresistible fragrance, which remains one of my favourite perfumes. Classic and tres chic, non?

Keira Knightley, Coco Mademoiselle

This beautifully shot advert sees Keira cavorting around in the streets of Paris, with a starring part in her very own film romance. The Joss Stone cover of L.O.V.E which plays in the background always has me singing along, and again I love the classic feel of this ad.

What do you think? What's your favourite? And are you hoping for any perfume for Christmas?

20.12.2010- Birthday Tea

As promised weeks ago, a post telling you all about my lovely 21st birthday! The day of my birthday itself was fairly uneventful as I was snowed in, but I did have a lovely cake to make up for it...

My beautifully wrapped presents and birthday decorations, all thanks to my lovely mum!
I got some lovely presents, but most exciting of all were the surprise tickets I got to go and see The Lion King at the Lyceum Theatre in London the Saturday after my birthday (which I had booked off work months in advance in anticipation!) After a nervous wait to see how the weather and transport would pan out, we luckily made it to the show, and it was brilliant. I'd seen it twice before when I was very young and my mum explained that she wanted to bring me back to see it so that I could re-live my childhood! It was such a touching surprise, and needless to say I was a bit of an emotional wreck from beginning to end (I can't even sit through the film without crying my eyes out!) The production is absolutely as magical as I remember it, and we had amazing seats, only a few rows from the front of the stage.

Then, the week after my birthday, my best friend Sarah and I went along to The Berkeley Hotel in Knightsbridge, to indulge in their Prêt-à-Portea; afternoon tea with a fashion twist. The hotel itself was so luxurious and we both felt extremely sophisticated! The food was served on Paul Smith designed China, and everything was stunningly presented. The sweet selection in particular was delicious, and I tried Vanilla tea for the first time, which was a lot more palatable than I was expecting!

The Menu (which may have sneakily found its way into my bag as a souvenir!)
Sarah with her tea!
Yummy sandwiches.
The sweets, with savoury spoons at the bottom.
Me pouring my tea.
Alice Temperley apple and pannacotta mousse with Manolo Blahnik high heel tuille, topped with golden blueberries (this was lovely!)
Alexander McQueen pale green pistachio dress biscuit with silver belt.
Anya Hindmarch cassis sponge tote covered in baby blue icing with iconic bow.
Philip Treacy chocolate hat cake with Monarch butterfly, probably my favourite of the lot!
Christian Louboutin sparkly high-heeled ginger show biscuit with signature red sole- how cute it this?
Every time we finished a tier from our cake stand, it was replenished with more, so it's fair to say that we both waddled rather than walked out of the hotel, each carrying our little souvenir bags with three treats each from the menu inside.

Goodie bag!
Sarah and I.
The hotel.
If you love your cake and fashion in equal measure, then I'd definitely suggest a trip to The Berkeley for their Prêt-à-Portea, although I'd advise fasting for about a week before hand as you can literally eat as much as you want. Sarah and I have now made it our mission in life to work our way through as many sittings of afternoon tea at London's poshest hotels as we can!

All in all, I had a wonderful birthday and got some amazing presents, including 21 that were individually wrapped from Sarah, some beautiful jewellery from my family and so many other lovely thoughtful surprises:

A selection of my lovely presents!
In spite of the snow, I really do think that this was probably the best birthday ever. It's just a shame that you only turn 21 once!

What's the best birthday you've ever had?

14.12.2010- Pretty as a picture

Emma Cook's latest collaboration with Topshop is definitely my favourite so far. This latest capsule collection of tees is heavily inspired by Art Deco design, and each comes with a beautiful illustrated hanger which would take pride of place in any wardrobe...

Each of the styles is available from topshop.com

I'm also completely in love with these printed silk dresses which Emma has created for her mainline collection this season:

Horse Print Mini Dress, £310, ASOS.

Flower Print Mini Dress, £324, ASOS.

I adore how vivid and multi-dimensional the prints are; each piece really is a work of art in its own right.

What do you think of Emma Cook's designs? Are you impressed by her latest collaboration with Topshop?
