Even if you're not headed to anything as glamorous as a masquerade ball, I love the idea of getting dressed up to see in the New Year (start as you mean to go on and all that!) As it is, I'll probably end up watching the fireworks on telly in wearing my pyjamas (I never really get up to anything for New Year's!), but it's the thought that counts, right?

Although I hate the snow, there is something quite magical about it, especially at this time the year. Not so magical, however, is the sight of me dressed head to toe in my cold weather gear- think Abominable Snowman crossed with Scott of the Antarctic and you're there. With the wintry weather set to continue, my wish for this weekend is to look this cool in the snow...

09.12.2011- Weekend Wishes

I don't know about you, but there's something about this time of year which makes me want to escape from the chaos of the pre-Christmas rush. Whilst I love the preparations in the run up to the day itself, it does seem that this year is proving quite stressful. So, this weekend, I'd love to get some peace and quiet away from all the frenzy...

08.12.2011- Siren Song

I really do love Florence and the Machine. I've been listening to their new album, Ceremonials, non stop since I received it as a birthday present last Friday, and it's already one of my favourites. Florence herself has also become something of a fashion icon, recently performing at the Chanel SS12 show and wearing beautiful couture pieces by Givenchy and Elie Saab on the red carpet. Confirming that she's now firmly established herself as a style star, Florence graces the cover of the January 2012 issue of Vogue UK, captured on camera by Mario Testino:

The editorial, entitled Siren Song, has yet to appear online, but I can't wait to see it when it does. I'm also really intrigued by the 'multi-tasking handbag' mentioned on the cover, so might have to pick up a copy of the magazine just out of curiosity!

19.10.2011- Frida does the 40s

The 1940s have to be my favourite style era- I love the 'make do and mend' attitude, the effortless elegance of the design and, of course, the beautiful printed tea dresses which proved so popular during the period. When this blog was in its infancy, I put together a post about changing fashions through the last seventy years or so, and it was no surprise that the 40s came out on top. It seems I'm not the only one who loves the style of the era either- as this beautiful editorial from the November issue of ELLE Sweden featuring Frida Gustavsson proves:

Mixing together some Miu Miu and Marc Jacobs with perfectly set victory rolls and a splash of scarlet lipstick, this editorial offers a perfect take on 40s elegance. If you're searching for the perfect high street interpretation of this style, then look no further than this Swallow Print Dress (pictured centre) from New Look, which looks set to cause a stampede when it lands in stores at the end of the month.

24.08.2011- Brighton Rock

If you've been shopping over the last few weeks, then you can't fail to have noticed the arrival of a slew of 1960s style designs on the high street. And if you've been inspired by what you've seen of the mods and rockers vibe so far, then you'll love this shoot from the September issue of US Vogue:

I love the sharp tailoring, bright colours and graphic prints, and Natalia rocks a beehive and smoky eye like no-one else can. Plus it's great to see Sam Riley (who was so good in Control) hitting the big time in America, as the adaptation of Brighton Rock in which he stars is released over there. Definitely a must-watch if you need a further dose of 60s inspiration.

06.08.2011- Weekend Wishes

As much as I love living within a stone's throw of London, there are times when it's nice to escape to some peace and quiet (especially when your next-door neighbours are having a DIY marathon!) I'm quite lucky as I live in quite a 'countrified' area (as my mum calls it), so I'm not surrounded by concrete, but this weekend I wish I could really get away from it all...

This editorial is stunning- just looking at it makes me feel more relaxed, and the location is idyllic. Now to invest in some earplugs to try and block out the drilling/crash-bang-walloping/general racket from next door!

26.07.2011- First Look: Elle Fanning for LOVE

You may remember about this time last year, the fourth edition of LOVE magazine was available with eight different covers. Well, issue six of the magazine comes out at the beginning of August, with three different covers to choose from, and, a month after this, a second run of the issue with five special edition fashion covers will be available. I've just caught a sneaky peek at the first cover to be released- rising star Elle Fanning as photographed by Mert and Marcus:
