07.07.2011- Glamour of the Gods

If you're anything at all like me then you'll love looking at photographs of old film stars for inspiration. There's something so magical about looking back at the glamour of bygone eras, and I don't think that today's film stars have got anything on the icons of the past. Give me Audrey over Angelina any day! With this in mind, I can't wait to make my way along to the National Portrait Gallery's Glamour of the Gods exhibition, which opens today. The exhibition, which showcases over 70 portraits from the Golden Age of Hollywood, features a range of images which were instrumental in cementing the appeal of stars such as James Dean, Marylin Monroe, Greta Garbo and Rita Hayworth and have since become iconic in their own right. Here's a little glimpse of some of the portraits on show:

Marlon Brando
Marlene Dietrich
Grace Kelly
Elizabeth Taylor
The prints, many of which are being displayed for the first time, are taken from the John Kobal Foundation Archive, which features over 22,000 images from Hollywood's Golden Age. The foundation has also produced a book to accompany the exhibition which features over 200 rarely seen images from the Kobal Foundation archive and is sure to be an inspiring read.

The exhibition runs at the National Portrait Gallery from today (July 7th) until October 23rd. Standard tickets cost £6, and more information on how to book can be found here. I can't wait to visit!

Will you be visiting the exhibition? And who are your favourite Hollywood icons?

10.02.2011- Spring Dreams

Spring is slowly making its presence felt (how lovely was it to see the sun the other day?), and as we wave goodbye to winter, I've found a little slice of transitional inspiration in the form of this shoot, titled Watercolour Dreams, starring Natalie Gempel and shot by Lauren Withrow:

I love how Withrow has managed to capture the atmosphere of a frosty winter morning but retained a really spring-like feel thanks to the magical woodland location and styling. This shoot also really reminds me of both Little Red Riding Hood and Snow White, but I'm not really sure why!

What do you think of this shoot? Are you looking forward to spring?

21.07.2010- Holiday Snaps

As promised, here are some photographs from my holiday. I stayed in a tiny Spanish village about an hour and a half away from Mรกlaga Airport, and spent most of the two weeks I was there relaxing in the sunshine, catching up on some good reading and swimming. I haven't had a beach holiday for five years, so it was really lovely to have a really relaxing time and change of scenery.

Beautiful Hibiscus flowers were planted all around the village, in gorgeous pinks, corals, blues and whites.

Myself on the beach on day one of the holiday, hence the lack of tan!

View of the sunset from the balcony of the apartment.

Myself on the beach (again!)

The view of the village from the top of a mountain.

Shadows of roses growing along a residential street.

A traditional Spanish townhouse situated along the main road of the village, it had the biggest garden, with a palm tree and a water well.  I can only imagine how beautiful it would be on the inside, and it would be a lovely place to live, as the rear garden faces the seafront.

The swimming pool.

Beautiful palm trees growing all along the seafront.

Me on the beach when the waves were very fierce!

The waves coming in over the sand.

A wave breaking on the beach.

Overall it was a really lovely holiday, and I am already missing the sunshine.

Are you off anywhere exciting this summer? Where is your dream holiday location?
